 Investec, in partnership with Studietrust, offers partial bursaries to students who aim to study full time towards an undergraduate degree in Commerce, Business Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology or a Commercial LLB. These degrees represent fields of relevance to the financial services and other key industries.
  
1. Instructions for submission of application forms
Applications will only be considered if completed in full and if all the supporting documents have been included and signed by the applicant. Documents that accompany the application form must be certified:   

  1.1 Your final Grade 11 results or an appropriate progress report if no examination was written.
1.2 A copy of your May/June 2013 exam.  If you are not studying this year, send a copy of your latest exam results, together with an explanation of what you are doing this year. This is essential as the exam results play an important role in the selection process.
1.3 Matric/NSC results: If you have already completed matric/NSC, include your results, together with your latest tertiary results. This is compulsory for all tertiary students.
1.4 Two testimonials: One testimonial from a responsible educational official like your principal or lecturer and the other by a community, political or spiritual leader. Use the testimonial forms included (sections 5 and 6) or attach suitable testimonials.
1.5 Write an essay on your life on the page included (section 7). Use additional pages if necessary. This must be written by you. Your parent, guardian or friend may write a letter of recommendation.
1.6 Proof of salaries* of parent(s), guardian or spouse (*e.g. payslip, letter from employer, sworn statement or tax return statement).
1.7 A copy of your South African ID.

 
 2. Selection criteria for selected educational institutions 
   2.1 The main criteria for the selection of applications are financial need and academic potential.   
   2.2 Bursary applications are invited from young people who aim to study full time towards an undergraduate university (academic) degree in:
 

 
  • Commerce (Economics, Business Economics, Accounting, Investments and Finance)
  • Business Science, Science and Mathematics
  • Engineering
  • Information Technology (including Computer Science and related fields)
  • A commercial LLB

     2.3 Academic selection criteria:  
    2.3.1 Applicants in Grade 12 indenting to study towards a B Com or B Business Science degree should have

 
  • pass marks of at least 50% in all their subjects with
  • a minimum of 60% in Mathematics (not Maths Literacy) and
  • a minimum of 60% in English. 

    2.3.2 Applicants who intend studying towards a BSc or a BSc Engineering degree should have obtained

 
  • pass marks of at least 50% in all their subjects with
  • a minimum of 60% in Mathematics (not Maths Literacy) and
  • 60% in English
  • a minimum of 60% in Physical Science. 

       2.3.3 Applicants who wrote Matric (Grade 12) prior to 2008 must have obtained

 
  • a minimum of a C symbol Maths (HG) and
  • a minimum of a C symbol in English (HG). 

     2.3.4 NB: Please apply timeously for admission to the educational institution of your choice. Consult the websites of the universities for application deadlines. 
        2.4When completing the application form, please clearly specify the exact degree programme for which you need a bursary, the name of the educational institution where you plan to study and the year of study.  
    2.5 Bursaries will only be offered to applicants who are currently in Grade 12 or in their first year of University.  
    2.6 Changing your degree programme after submitting your application form may lead to a cancellation of the bursary, if granted.  
    2.7 No bursaries are available for private tertiary institutions.
 
3. Bursary amounts
The bursary amounts are reviewed and are subject to change every year. To give you an idea, in the 2012 academic year the amounts were as follows:  
    3.1 Investec offered a partial bursary of R50,000 towards study related expenses.  
    3.2 Successful candidates could apply through the Financial Aid Office of their university of choice or through Studietrust for a study loan from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) to cover the shortfall (the maximum amount in 2012 was R57 000). Terms and conditions apply.
 
4. Application procedure
 Applicants could either complete the online application form or request a hardcopy application form to be sent by e-mail or surface mail.  
    4.1 For applying online, please follow this link. Indicate in the relevant space that you are applying for an Investec bursary.
    4.2 For receiving an application form by e-mail, please request one in one of two ways:
 

 

 4.3 For requesting a hardcopy application form to be sent to you by surface mail, you may select any of the following methods:
 

 

5. Closing dates:
   5.1 The closing date for requesting an application form is 15 September.  
   5.2 The closing date for submitting your completed application form with all supporting documents is 30 September. This deadline applies to all modes of application.
 
6. Acknowledgement of receipt
 Studietrust (Investec’s bursary administrator) receives thousands of application forms each year and it is therefore not possible for us to acknowledge receipt of all completed forms. All applications will be considered and selection will take place from September to December. All applicants will be notified of the outcome not later than 31 December.
